This is a plain, simple meal that can be easily cooked in 15 minutes, with some easy preparation before hand. This works with my stove and microwave, your times may be different
The result should be a crusty, medium rare steak with mashed potatoes and just cooked green beans.
2 x 275g Scotch Fillet steaks
400g mashing potatoes
200g green beans
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 x 20g Butter
Salt
Medium saucepan with lid
Medium frying pan
Medium Microwave container with lid
Tongs
Strainer or Colander
Potato masher
30 minutes before:
Take steaks out of fridge, place on paper towel, season both sides with salt to suit.
Peel potatoes, cut into cubes, place in microwave container with water
Top and tail green beans, set aside
Place saucepan on stove with enough salted water to cook the beans
Place a frying pan on stove in readiness
Set a timer for 15 minutes and relax
Then...
Set a timer for 15 minutes, no more relaxing,
15 minutes before: Turn on high heat to saucepan of water; turn oven on, to 50 degrees c.
14 minutes before: Start microwave, ( I cook potatoes for 12 minutes on high, every microwave is different.)
11 minutes before: turn frying pan on, to high
7 minutes before: add olive oil to hot pan then steaks
6 minutes before: place plates in oven to warm
5 minutes before: add beans to boiling water
4 minutes before: turn steaks, (optional) add 20g butter to pan. Tilt pan occasionally and spoon oil/butter mix over steaks.
2 minutes before: check with a fork that potatoes are cooked, then drain and mash. Add 20g butter after first mash and continue mashing until well combined. Season with salt to taste. Keep covered.
1 minute before:
Quickly drain beans and return to saucepan, leave lid on.
Turn off steak, place each steak on paper towel.
Take warm plates out of oven
Place steaks on plates
Scoop mash onto plates
Using tongs , place beans on plates
